AEG WORLDWIDE

Farewell Yellow Brick Road commemorative award

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour was meant to be Elton John’s last. What was supposed to be a three-year tour that began in 2018 instead lasted for five years due to COVID-19 and an untimely hip injury. Despite these setbacks, the tour became (at the time) the highest-grossing concert tour in history and cemented EJ as Billboard Magazine’s top solo artist of all time. As the tour came to a close, his tour management company wanted to commemorate these milestones in the form of a pair of etched crystal Tiffany awards. A limited run were made and presented to all staff, musicians and crew who helped make the tour the monumental achievement that it was.

The initial designs featured illustrative motifs of rockets and roses, both subtle nods to the Rocket Man and his principal botanical passion, respectively. But in the end, two exclusive tour photographs by David Lachapelle were chosen for use, because, well, nobody can compete with that guy. Merely an exercise in tasteful typesetting and composition, it was nonetheless an honor to play a part in something that ended up in the hands of a legend.
